Faced with an assignment like this, the temptation is to go cantering down memory lane - I plead guilty elsewhere in these pages - but it is a pleasure to hail an interpretation hot, as it were, off the stage: Pisaroni's trail-blazing Guglielmo at Glyndebourne this year. He has a beautifully dark, firm voice with a wide range of colour, sings words as if they mean something (being italian helps) and is a natural creature of the stage. But there was more to this performance than that.

'Faust' at the Wiener Staatsoper

This month, Luca Pisaroni revisits the role of Méphistophélès in Gounod's Faust at the Wiener Staatsoper. He previously debuted as Méphistophélès to critical acclaim earlier this season at Houston Grand Opera. The performances in Vienna take place March 18, 21 & 25, and also feature Jean-Francois Borras in the title role, with Anita Hartig as Marguerite and Orhan Yildiz sings Valentin, with conductor Simone Young on the podium.

Pisaroni sings Mozart’s Concert Arias and Schubert’s Orchestrated Songs on a programme that also includes works by Boccherini and Françaix. Role debut as Giorgio in Bellini's 'I Puritani' at The Met

This season, Luca Pisaroni makes his debut at Giorgio in Bellini's masterful I Puritani at The Metropolitan Opera. Performances take place February 10, 14, 18, 22, 25 & 28 with an illustrious cast, including Diana Damrau as Elvira, Javier Camarena as Arturo, and Alexey Markov as Riccardo. Maurizio Benini leads the Met Opera Orchestra for all dates, which feature a production by Sandro Sequi. The February 10 performance will also receive a free online stream via Met Radio Online, with a Saturday Matinee Radio Broadcast on stations nationwide on February 18.
