Luca Pisaroni will debut the role of Don Pizarro for a three-concert series of Beethoven’s Fidelio in Tokyo. Performances begin May 6 in Bunkamura Orchard Hall and continue May 8 (Suntory Hall) and May 10 (Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall). This dynamic work, the only opera Beethoven composed, will feature the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of conductor Myung-Whun Chung, with additional soloists Peter Seiffert as Florestan, Manuela Uhl as Leonore, Teruhiko Komori as Don Fernando, Franz-Josef Selig as Rocco, Sylvia Schwartz as Marceline, and Takashi Otsuki as Jaquino. This is an exciting debut for Luca as he has notably sung the role of Don Fernando and is now adopting Don Pizarro, the formidable prison governor, into his repertoire. This summer, Luca will have his staged role debut as Don Pizarro at the Teatro alla Scala beginning on June 18.
